The University Library has put together a useful guide on authors rights, including explanations of author's rights to a copyrighted work and addenda that can be used to modify an author's agreement with a publisher.
The Copyright Experiences Wiki is a site where authors can share their experiences with author's agreements for law journals. Included are model agreements and examples of situations in which authors have successfully or unsuccessfully negotiated with a journal for modification of the journal's standard author's agreement. Note that the information is somewhat dated and incomplete.
In this study, the author provides a brief overview of the importance of author's agreements and their copyright provisions, as well as the results of a survey of agreements from a number of law reviews.
Addenda are frequently used to modify an author agreement to reserve rights to share, post, or republish articles. Below are sample addenda. These addenda are presented for informational purposes only and are often tailored for the needs of a particular institution; for more information on using an addendum and modifying your author agreement, please contact the Office of Legal Affairs.
